In October 2017, Microgaming released a slot whose rights they had licensed from Miramax. The slot pays homage to the 1978 slasher film HalloweenTM that was directed by the King of Horror - John Carpenter.

The plot focuses on the psychopath Michael Myers who, in 1963 at the age of 6, killed his sister Judith. Escaping from a mental hospital 15 years later, he returns to his home town of Haddonfield to finish off his other sister Laurie (and terrorise the townsfolk along the way) played by the venerable Jamie Lee Curtis. Dr Loomis, Michael's psychiatrist, played by Donald Pleasence heads to Michael's past stomping ground to try and catch him.

The setting for the slot, in fact, is Michael's old, abandoned house. The upper-value symbols include Laurie, Loomis, Annie and Lynda. There are also six lower-value symbols including a pistol, knife, mask, telephone, matchbox and ball of yarn + needles. The uneasy soundtrack and sound bites from the movie add an authentic dimension to the slot.

Our verdict on Halloween

HalloweenTM is the right type of game when you're looking to relive an iconic slasher film of the past with some excellent payout potential. This scary game is medium to high volatility, which I liked because not only does it offer several features, but I didn't need to wait forever to trigger them. Another positive of this slot is that collecting prizes of 30x or more was not uncommon. My personal best was 93x that I achieved during the free spins, but I found plenty of decent prizes outside of free spins as well. The game is entertaining and one of my favourites for around the time of All Hallows Eve. The game is suited for someone who can tolerate the higher risk/reward that comes with medium-high volatility but wants to avoid full-on high volatility.
